Pointe Jérome Outdoor Base Camp
The Naval and Historical Museum at Mahebourg, located in a French Colonial Period Mansion and displaying original artefacts recovered from ships wrecked during the Battle of Vieux Grand Port in 1810.

Sightseeing of monuments erected to commemorate: (i) the emancipation of slaves in 1835 (ii) the victims of the Battle of Vieux Grand Port (iii) victims of the wreck of the Chrysolite.

Drive along the coast road in sight of some of the outlying islands including L’ile aux Fouquets where the first settlers of Rodrigues were imprisoned.

Vieux Grand Port Village, the historical site of the first landing by the Dutch in 1598 and their initial settlement in 1638.

Continue to Devil’s Point, a headland where one can see the ruins of the 18th century French Batterie.

Enjoy the view along the sweeping bay of Anse Jonchee, en route to Domaine du Chasseur, a private nature reserve with outstanding views of the bay and reef.

City of Port-Louis
(15 mins from IGE camp of Pointe Aux Sables)

Government House, dating from 1738.

Port Louis Theatre, inaugurated in 1822.

Parcours Culturel, opposite the theatre and recently restored to house La Maison du Poete and a photography museum.

Site of the Supreme Court dating from the 18th century.

Catholic Church of St. Louis and the Bishop’s Palace a fine mansion completed in 1852.

The Citadel, from which there are magnificent panoramic views of the City, including the Champ de Mars race course and the Harbour.

General Post Office, a National Monument, situated on the waterfront it was completed in 1842.

Appravashi Ghat, where the early Indian immigrants were placed after their arrival before being taken to the employment camps.

Labourdonnais Waterfront where you have cinemas, pubs, casinos, restaurants and shopping malls.

The Highlands of Mauritius
Le Val Nature Park, a nature reserve deep in the heart of Mauritius.

Bois Cheri, the main area for tea cultivation .

Kanaka Crater, remnant of the tremendous volcanic activity that created the Island.

Grand Bassin (Ganga Talao), a natural lake east of Le Petrin whose waters are sacred to people of the Hindu faith.

En route to Plaine Champagne visit the Macabee-Bel Ombre Forest which has been declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO.

Panoramic views across the gorges to the West Coast and the peaks of Rempart Mountain.

To Curepipe by the road bordering Mare aux Vacoas reservoir which serves the towns of Plaines Wilhems.
